dns.anon.no

Hi, my name is Alex.

I found out recently that my dns.anon.no project (powered by AdGuard Home) has been listed in a few public repos & wikis (specifically the cURL GitHub wiki).

As mentioned by the cURL GitHub wiki, it supports: DoH, DoT and DoQ. Regular DNS (UDP 53) is not accessible.
DoT & DoQ isn't regularly tested, as I personally rely the most on DoH, but generally they should all work.

I don't have any plans of blocking anyone from using this service (except for abuse), but please be aware that the setup only intended to serve my own needs and configuration.
No uptime or reliability guarantees.

Adblocking DNS is meant to be an alternative on devices where browser-based adblocking isn't really possible (apps on smartphones, game consoles, smart TVs etc.). Running Mozilla Firefox with Ublock Origin installed is always recommended wherever possible. Even on Android!

Server locations

dns.anon.no is primarily powered by two servers hosted on different providers. "Load balanced" by relying on the random-ish order on DNS lookups. Regular synchronizing of configuration between them happens thanks to adguardhome-sync by bakito.

Upstreams

The AdGuard Home instances are configured to use the following upstream DNS servers, in the "Load-balancing" mode. In other words:

Query one upstream server at a time. AdGuard Home uses a weighted random algorithm to select servers with the lowest number of failed lookups and the lowest average lookup time.

Most requests (~90%) end up using the first three resolvers, with only a handful ending up on DNSCry.pt's resolvers.

Blocklists

Some external blocklists are loaded, list may not be accurate at all times as I might add or remove occasionally, but a general overview can be found below.
